The opening date has been set for the Chapel Hill Krispy Kreme store: Wednesday, Aug. 25. The store is at 157 E. Franklin St. (in the former Firehouse Subs) and will open at 6 a.m. that day. A ribbon cutting will follow at 9:30.
For those wondering, the doughnuts at the Chapel Hill store will be made at the Raleigh Person Street location. But they will be glazed in Chapel Hill, which means there will be one of the company's iconic "hot now" lights blazing in the window.
The grand opening will come with all of the normal hoopla that surrounds the introduction of the glazed goodness to a new location. The first customer in line will win a dozen doughnuts every week for a year. The following 99 people will receive a dozen doughnuts a month for a year. And those lucky 100 people will also get a Carolina Blue Krispy Kreme T-shirt. there will also be samples of the company's doughnuts, coffee and new Kool Kreme soft serve ice cream available.
