PAWS: What Vaccines are Really Needed?

Emailed from Dr. Jon & The Dog Crazy Newsletter...

Some people are under the misconception (or they have been given the wrong information) that when they acquire their puppies or dogs they have already been given all the vaccines they need - for life.

This is NOT true. You would not believe how many puppies I've seen over the years that became sick with some preventable disease. They received some vaccines but not everything that they needed.

Some people are concerned about over-vaccination. Is it possible to over-vaccinate? Yes it is. For those of you that want to know more, I have the perfect article for you.
What Vaccines Does Your Dog REALLY Need? This article will tell you.
Until next time,
Dr. Jon

PAWS: Foods you should NEVER give your dog

Many pet parents are guilty of treating our animals to some human foods, but did you know there are several items that you should NEVER give your furry friends?  Here is a listing of just some of the foods the book Doc Halligan's What Every Pet Owner Should Know by veterinarian Karen Halligan, DVM, director of veterinary services for the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Los Angeles.

Avocados and their pits       Chives
Garlic                                Onions
Chocolate                          Macadamia Nuts
Peach pits                          Apricot pits
Apple Seeds                        Raisins and Grapes
Uncooked dough                 Xylitol (found in gum, sweets)

But there are a couple of items that are ok in moderation for your pets, these foods include:
Eggs (thoroghly cooked)
Meats (well done, boneless and skinless)

National Breast Cancer Awareness Month

AstraZeneca, which manufactures breast cancer drugs Arimidex and Tamoxifen, founded the National Breast Cancer Awareness Month in the year 1985. The aim of the NBCAM from the start has been to promote mammography as the most effective weapon in the fight against breast cancer.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month (BCAM) (also referred to in America as National Breast Cancer Awareness Month (NBCAM)) is an annual international health campaign organized by major breast cancer charities every October to increase awareness of the disease and to raise funds for research into its cause, prevention and cure. The campaign also offers information and support to those affected by breast cancer.

As well as providing a platform for breast cancer charities to raise awareness of their work and of the disease, BCAM is also a prime opportunity to remind women to be breast aware for earlier detection.

How TO: Add Moisture to Hair That Is Naturally Dry

this article brought to you by http://www.yeahtips.com

Dry hair is a big problem faced by women who want tempting, silky tresses; they want to add moisture to hair to achieve these results. Dry hair also aggravates problems like hair breakage and dandruff and prevents one from having healthy hair.
  • Adding moisture to hair is an important part ofhair care, as it is hair moisture that keeps flaky, itchy scalps and split ends away. While a visit to the salon can take care of dry hair, it is not feasible to run to a professional every day. Here are some natural, easy, at-home ways to addmoisture to hair and keep it hydrated:
  • Make a nourishing hair conditioner with avocado and honey, and apply it to your hair at least twice a week.
  • Give your hair and scalp a good massage with a few drops of sunflower oil. The key is to not wash the oil out and let it work its wonder. Start with the ends and work toward the scalp.
  • Minimize the use of harsh hair products, colors, dryers, and curlers. Let your hair breathe, and keep it as natural as possible.
  • Get some good hair moisturizing products made with natural ingredients. Keep the chemical content as small as possible.
Dry and frizzy hair never looks good and is also unhealthy. Therefore, the level of moisture of hair needs to be kept high. While natural is the best way to go, you can always consult hair experts and pamper you hair at a salon.
