Diana Ross Appearing at the DPAC

The iconic Diana Ross will hold a concert at the Durham Performing Arts Center in Durham, NC. This epic event is set to take place on March 11,2011. Tickets starting at only $40 will go on sale November 5th at 10am.  Read more here from the DPAC website...

True music legend Diana Ross will perform at DPAC, Durham Performing Arts Center on Friday, March 11, 2011 at 8pm as part of her ’MORE TODAY THAN YESTERDAY” tour. The legendary icon will perform her greatest hits in a multi-city spectacular live show. Ms. Ross will be pulling out all the stops with breathtaking costumes and stage designs, along with a live string and horn section.
Diana Ross has had a profound influence on American popular culture and has become an icon in the entertainment industry. She is an Academy Award nominated actress for her unforgettable role as Billie Holiday in Lady Sings The Blues, a Tony and Golden Globe winner, a bestselling author, winner of 8 American Music Awards and a recipient of The Kennedy Center Honors. Her reputation as a woman of great style and beauty has put her on the covers of hundreds of magazines. Ms. Ross has sold over 100 million records and recorded 18 #1 hits. Her music became the sound of young America in the ‘60s soon after she signed with Motown Records in 1961 with The Supremes. She embarked on her extraordinary solo career in 1970, and has not stopped since.

EVENT REMINDER: INAUGURAL AFRICAN-AMERICAN CULTURAL FESTIVAL

SEPTEMBER 4th and 5th at the RALEIGH CENTER PLAZA

Raleigh residents are invited to enjoy their Labor Day weekend at the first ever African American Cultural Festival. The festival will be a celebration of African-American art and culture and will be held on City Plaza , Charter Square and the 400 block of Fayetteville Street September 3 through September 5.

After a welcome reception on Friday, September 3, Saturday and Sunday will feature African-American arts and crafts, specialty items and food vendors. At City Plaza , the “main stage” will be filled with local, regional, and nationally recognized acts. Scheduled performers include: African American Dance Ensemble w/ Chuck Brown * John Brown Groove Shop Band * Kooley High * The Lee Boys * Marcus Anderson * Mixed Water * Sierra Leone Refuge All Stars * Soul Rebels Brass Band and more!
    Located adjacent to City Plaza at Charter Square will be the site of a family-friendly “village” featuring entertainers and performances. The day also will include educational and interactive programming for children highlighted by a performance by “Magic of African Rhythm.”

    EVENT: Teen & Young Adult Expo & Concert Series

    Friday, July 23rd 11am - 7pm
    Marriott Downtown Durham
    Admission Cost: $5 

    Goal: This teen expo will be the largest event targeting teens and young adults ages 14 – 21 in the triangle area. The ultimate goal will be to provide this audience with an outlet where they can obtain information on things such as staying in school, obtaining scholarships, picking the right school, moving away from home, maintaining positive self esteem and more. For current college students, there will be seminars on learning how to obtain a job after graduation, keeping finances in order and more.

    There will be open forum seminars hosted by Terrence J of BET's 106 & Park, Brian Dawson of K97.5 and The Russ Parr Morning Show. There will also be college representatives, job recruiters and retailers present. The day will conclude with a concert series brought to you by Russ Parr.

    Steps for Success: What you need to know now to prepare for later.
