Neighborhood News: City Council Budget Hearing June 1st

Please view the below email and contact information as the Raleigh City Council will conduct a public hearing on the City’s proposed budget and Capital Improvement Program (CIP) for the coming fiscal year.

Dear Board of Directors and Friends,

Below is a message I sent out earlier today to my fellow arts administrators about the 7 PM, Tuesday, June 1, City Council Budget Hearing:

To follow-up on Lisa’s excellent advocacy action plan, it is critically important that the greater Raleigh arts community is exceptionally well represented next Tuesday evening (June 1) at the City Council budget hearing.  If you haven’t already done so, please contact your board and audience members, program participants who have benefited from your work, and other arts advocates and urge them to attend.

Expect an overflow crowd and plan accordingly.  Please arrive as early as possible to claim a seat for this 7 PM Council session.

Although the public hearing is less than a week away, we have another week after that to contact the Council and positively remind them of the profound economic and social impact the greater arts community has on our city and region.
The bottom line: If the City Council approves the City Manager’s 2010-11 budget proposal, Artsplosure’s grant will be cut by at least $22,500 and likely more!  Therefore, we really need you there Tuesday evening!
This meeting is in the City Council Chamber, Raleigh Municipal Building, Avery C. Upchurch Government Complex, 222 West Hargett Street (corner Dawson and Hargett). For more info visit the City of Raleigh's Proposed Budget Public Hearing notice.
